The Methods

Dr. Adam is a Diversified Practitioner.

That means he does everything, and more!

Evidence-Based, Diversified Practice

Healthcare has evolved. Increasing amounts of research show the connection between a proactive, conservative plan of care being superior to a reactive, invasive plan of care.

This makes a lot of sense. Would you rather have orthopaedic surgery, or never need it?

All treatments provided are backed by peer-reviewed research and are tailored to your unique case & body. You can trust that the methods are based in modern, holistic thinking – and are not simply a symptoms-based or “3-times-a-week-for-the-rest-of-your-life” approach.

Patient Empowerment

Our patients are the leading experts on themselves. They spend more time with themselves, know their body better, and understand the way they work likely better than anyone else ever could.

For that reason, they are treated as a PARTNER in their own health at our clinic. While many patients first present with a specific pain complaint; once recovered the tools necessary to prevent reoccurrence are always given and followed.

Whether through patient education, exercise prescription, lifestyle modification, self-management or regular check-ins, we provide you the best possible tools for managing your own health and life.

Spinal-Manipulation

Spinal Manipulative Therapy (or “joint cracking”) revolves around a high-velocity & low-amplitude (fast, but gentle) movement.

Spinal Manipulative Therapy has been found to be an effective method of managing both acute and chronic pain complaints. This is by 6 methods:

  1. Restore full joint Range-of-Motion, promoting mobility, joint nutrient uptake and joint waste excretion

  2. Relax the musculature around the targeted structures

  3. Shut down the nociceptive (pain) nerve fibres being activated

  4. Release formed joint adhesions from restricting mobility

  5. Release trapped mensicoids (connective tissue) from within the targeted joint capsule

  6. Stimulate endorphin (natural painkiller) production

Sports Massage & Soft Tissue Therapy

Certified Smart Tools® Provider

Manual and Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Treatment (IASTT) are two established methods for acute & chronic injury treatment. All IASTT are derivatives of Gua Sha - a technique dating back to ~220 BC utilizing spoons, coins, jars, wood, and most notably jade stone.

The modern-day rebranding of Gua Sha treatment is known as Graston Technique®, founded by David Graston. Smart Tools® is yet another branch of IASTT, working by 3 mechanisms:

  1. Stimulating the nervous system to decrease pain perception, increase range-of-motion & improve proprioception

  2. Break up abnormal adhesions within the targeted tissues

  3. Reinitiate first-stage healing within the targeted tissues via proliferation

Physical Therapy & Exercise

“If exercise could be packaged in a pill, it would be the single most widely prescribed and beneficial medicine in the nation.” - Robert Butler

It is no secret that exercise offers phenomenal health benefits. This doesn’t only pertain to cardiovascular or resistance-based training, but also for physical rehabilitation and healing purposes.

We make sure that every patient receives an element of active-based care, whether that’s stretching, mobility, cardiovascular, sport-specific, weight-training or whatever serves to best restore our patient, and improve them afterwards.

Medical Acupuncture

A patient fights her fear of needles to treat hip numbness

I’m uncertain as to who the first person was who had an acute injury and thought that sticking sharp needles into it would help to relieve pain. Apparently though, they were on to something big.

Acupuncture originated off the Traditional Chinese Medicine Meridian System. That is to say, different locations on the body correspond to different organ system functioning. The medical approach focuses on musculoskeletal conditions including tendinopathies, muscle hypertonicity, headaches/migraines, and acute mechanical injury. When all else fails, stick it with sharp objects!

The needles used for acupuncture are very small - much more so than needles used to draw blood. Because of this, people quite often refer to acupuncture needles as “painless needle”, so don’t to psyche yourself out of considering it!
